CCA Opens Doors for Another School Year
For the 62nd Time!

Since 1950, CrossRoad Christian Academy has opened its doors to welcome

new and returning students, families and friends.  Every opening is another demonstration of God's grace, mercy and faithfulness. The hustle and bustle of classrooms being prepped...walls painted, desks cleaned, lockers refreshed, carpet cleaned, etc. mounts to a fevered pitch as the CCA maintenance crew prepares, for the 62nd time, for the big opening day... the 1st day of school.

Children aren't the only ones who are excited. Parents, faculty and staff are all anxiously awaiting the big day. We will all embark on a new and fresh beginning. This is another opportunity to plant seeds of learning, wisdom, knowledge, understanding, discipline, character, and vision... an opportunity to "increase in wisdom, in stature and in favor with God and man."

Let us all make the commitment to strive for a spirit of excellence in all that we do. .. being careful to always give God the glory and the praise for the mighty works that He does through us, in us, and among us.

Alumni Profile
Giving Back, Reaching Out, Keeping You in Touch

The purpose of this column is to profile CrossRoad Christian Academy [formerly known as Calvary Baptist Elementary and Calvary Christian Academy] alumni.  It's wonderful, fun, time-saving, and interesting to find out what your former classmates, friends and associates are up to these days. With so much going on in our fast-paced lives, our families, school, jobs, careers, and in the world-at-large, we get out of step with our BFFs and lose touch.

Too often our too busy lives keep us from remaining informed with the "goings-on" and the "not-so-much-going-on". Thank God for computers, the internet and all the other technological advances man has been blessed to "uncover" from the mind of God. With the development of our alumni association database alumni will be able to "give back, reach out, and keep in touch".

Want to be profiled? Submit a one page autobiography (indicate years attended, year graduated or transferred, high school(s), college(s), job, career, family) along with a photo to

Alumni Profile: Courtney Marshall, '06

Hi, my name is Courtney Marshall, alumni of CrossRoad Christian Academy (CCA), SAG (Screen Actor's Guild) actress and model, and the current Director's Assistant at CrossRoad Learning Center (CLC). At the time I enrolled in Crossroad it was named Calvary Christian Academy. I attended CCA from the tender age of 4 up until I was 13.

Having a strong Christian foundation helped guide me throughout my high school years as I attended both public and private schools. During my high school career I was faced with various temptations. But I can honestly say that despite those temptations, I remembered the morals and principles that my family and the teachers at CrossRoad had taught lead a life directed by Christ, that no matter what was occurring, I should always pursue my passion but be sure that it followed the morals and principals that Christ set forth for us. I've done just that.

I am a law student in my last year of college at Cal State University of Dominguez Hills. I am majoring in NCRP - Negotiation, Conflict Resolution, and Peace building - a 6 year intensive law program. In just a few months I will have my Bachelor's Degree and upon completing this 6 year program, I will have my Master's Degree in NCRP, my Juris Doctorate, and will officially be both a licensed Conflict Resolution Mediator and an Attorney at Law - Criminal Prosecutor.

Being just, being right, maintaining balance, peace, harmony, maintaining principles within the community, just as my family taught me, is what my heart is set on. One thing that I have learned from both my family and CrossRoadChristianAcademy is that the sky is not the limit and that all things are possible through God. Stay focused, dream big, and the possibilities are limitless!

CrossRaod Learning Center:
A Preschool in Transition

CrossRoad Learning Center will start its new school year on September 4th and we are excited about things that are happening for the new school year!  We have begun the process of renovating our school, a process that will be ongoing for the next 1-2 years.

The ceiling will have a very sleek black feel similar to a modern loft's.  We started with the ceiling last weekend, & when the children came in, some of them marveled saying, "Wow!" We will continue painting in the last week of August while the school is closed from August 27th - September 3rd.  We cannot wait for the children and families to see the school after our very short summer recess!
We have added over 40 new luscious live plants on the inside and outside of our school, and there are many more to come!  Several of the parents have given positive feedback on the loveliness of the plants.
Our school menu has also changed.  We have added new menu items for the children to enjoy. Our young food critics clearly express their opinion of the hits and misses!  They are enjoying most of the selections, however, we are rethinking the Greek pasta salad, the salmon burgers, & the cottage cheese. Some of the children loved the salmon burgers, but others, I think were wondering, "Where's the beef?!"
I thank God for this opportunity to effect the lives of so many children in so many ways with our program.  With His guidance, the children, the families, the teachers, the school, we all will be fruitful and successful as we follow the path of righteousness laid out by the Lord at CrossRoad.

Labor Day Facts

Have a Restful and Enjoyable

Labor Day Weekend!

Here are a few fun facts you may not know about Labor Day.

▪ Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

▪ Labor Day has come to be celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer.

▪ Labor Day is (or was) considered the last day of the year when it is fashionable to wear white.

In U.S. sports, Labor Day:

   ◦ Marks the beginning of the NFL and college football seasons.

   ◦ NFL traditionally play their first game the Thursday following Labor Day.

   ◦ NCAA teams usually play their first games the week before Labor Day,

   ◦ At Indianapolis Raceway Park, the National Hot Rod Association hold their finals to the U.S. Nationals drag race.

▪ In the U.S. most school districts that started summer vacation in early June will resume school the day after this holiday, for example CrossRoad. However this tradition is changing as manyschool districts end in early June and begin mid-August.

A Message from the     Head of School

God is faithful!

At a time when many private schools have had to close their doors, CrossRoad Christian Academy is blessed and highly favored to open our doors once again and welcome students, family and friends for our 62nd academic school year.  To God be the Glory!

In acknowledgment of God as our source and strength and His Word as our guiding light, each school year a scripture is selected as the Theme Verse and the spiritual focus for the year is derived from the verse.

Psalms 25:4-5 is the Theme Verse for the 2012-2013 school year.

"Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths.Lead me in Your truth and teach me: for You are the God of my salvation; on You do I wait all the day."

Throughout the year our spiritual focus will be for:

1) Teachers, parents and staff to seek, teach and model God's ways, paths, and truths;

2) Students are to seek, learn and practice using God's ways, paths, and truths.

It's been said that life is a journey...a series of choices that we make on the pathway of life. Many of those choices can impact us for a lifetime and impact the lives of others as well.

Ways -  God's ways are His methods, style, or His characteristic or habitual manner of behavior or expression.

Paths - God's way of life, conduct or thought; a "track of life" God has specially constructed for a particular use

Truths - that which God has created and ordained to be the supreme reality and to have the ultimate meaning and value of existence.

In making life choices (family, friends, school, education, job, career, health, finances, Bible, spiritual growth) a wise person (student, parent, teacher, office staffer. administrator) will always choose God's ways; will follow the path God has specially designed for him/her; and will always diligently seek God's truth concerning those choices.

Too often we get impatient as we ponder our choices.  This school year let's commit to patiently wait on the Lord all the day, week, month, or however long it takes to become confident in knowing we are following His Way, His Path, and His Truth.

A Message from the
Preschool Director

Storms have raged, winds have blown, waves have crashed. The leaves have changed their color and float away in the warm air . . . the path is a winding road . . . on Transition Road - The journey now begins.

Friends and parents of CrossRoad Learning Center, welcome to this new adventure on this beautiful road. Together we will experience a new culture, learn new things, develop collaborative relationships, create lovely artifacts, enhance our environment, and so much more.

The most important thing of all is that we will all grow even more as teachers, parents, children, leaders, and as a community while honoring God, and honoring each other. I will continue to give you information throughout the year as we travel together.

Thank you for joining us on our journey on Transition Road. Though the road is long, intricate, and winding before us, if we "trust in the Lord with all of our hearts, and lean not on our own understanding; [and] if we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will direct our paths,"  (Proverbs 3:5-6).
